Berere
The Berere Project area, located approximately two hundred and thirty kilometers north from Antananarivo,
occurs within the northwest province of Mahajanga. The project comprises thirty-two squares and the area
under tenure totals approximately two hundred square kilometers. Project title is one hundred percent (100%)
in the name of PAMM.
Access
Access to the project is northwest and north, along the bitumen Route Nationale-4, for a distance of
approximately three hundred kilometers, then southeast along a Route Secondaire, for a distance of
approximately eighty kilometers to the project area. The project area is located immediately south
from the regional administrative town of Tsaratanana. General project infrastructure is considered
very good.
The project occurs at the northern end of the Tsaratanana Mineral Field. The Tsaratanana Mineral
Field extends for approximately two hundred and fifty kilometers in a north-south direction and for
approximately eighty kilometers in an east–west direction. Dominant rock types within this mineral
field are talc, chlorite and tremolite schist, amphibolite, quartzite and biotite gneiss. The mineral
field is bounded to the west and to the east by granitic migmatite. The rock types within the
Tsaratanana Mineral Field have complex interbedding (from Andriamena 1 :200,000 Geological Map,
1951 ; Direction de la Geologie Library, Antananarivo). From Besairie (1966, 1973), the Tsaratanana
Mineral Field can be placed within the 2.7 to 3.0 Ga System du Vohibory.
From an historical perspective, the Tsaratanana Mineral Field is Madagascar’s premier mineral
producing region. The mineral field displays numerous colonial gold prospects together with additional
modern era chrome production. The mineral field also hosts many platinum anomalies (Direction de le
Geologie Library, Antananarivo).
The Berere project area contains the gold prospects Ambatolitsangana, Amparihimaina and Besakarivo.
The Ambatolitsangana prospect was first described by Levat (1917 ; in Besairie, 1949) .. Levat described
quartz vein hosted gold, silver and galena mineralisation. The project area also contains several Zone
Aurifere and the licence area is surrounded by colonial era gold producing areas (refer fig. B8-1).
The Company considers that the Berere project has potential to host open cut gold mining.
